2018 Summit on the Impact of
Patent Intelligence
The rise of big data and artificial (AI) technology is reshaping the world as we know it. Nowhere is this more evident than in the field of intellectual property (IP), particularly when it comes to patents. But how can you succeed in this new world of big data, AI, and patents? Perhaps more important, how can you utilize big-data-supported patent lifecycle management to earn profits from patents?
Join the Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI), Wispro Technology Consulting Corporation, and InQuartik Corporation for the 2018 Summit on the Impact of Patent Intelligence: “Uncovering the Secrets Behind Earning Profits from Patents—What You Need to Know to Thrive in the Brave New World of Big-Data-Supported Patent Lifecycle Management.” This summit features real-world case studies that will enable you to learn and understand a new method of IP operation, and it may cause you to change your mind set on patent quality and value.

Without the right tool, it is difficult for patent asset managers to clearly structure their patent portfolios and expand their value. Therefore, businesses with a limited understanding of their patent assets may begin to mismanage their patents and even start to consider them as an expense.
With Patentcloud’s portfolio management and Patent Search’s Patent Matrix, patent asset managers are now able to classify, grade, and analyze patents, and compare them with competitors. Furthermore, they can now organize and strengthen their patent portfolios to create a successful patent strategy.
The speaker will make a demonstration using the Patentcloud patent intelligence platform to analyze and manage Apple’s 3D sensing-related patents. In this speech, we will talk about:
1. Patent asset v. Patent portfolio
2. Monitor patent portfolio of competitors
3. New tool for patent portfolio management
4. Case study – 3D Sensing

Ever since the implementation of China’s National Intellectual Property Strategy, patents in China have undergone a great deal of change in regards to their creation, protection, and application. In particular, China’s government has adopted a series of measures to improve patent quality and effectiveness, and to build a patent operation ecosystem and accelerate the effective integration of patent and financial capital. At the same time, the Chinese government has made reforms and strengthened the punishment for IP infringement, in order to improve the legal environment.
This speech is based on the premise of recent mainland China IP strategy, combined with the related macroeconomic data of China’s patents. In addition, this speech examines China’s semiconductor industry patents in order to discuss and analyze recent patent concepts and changes, as well as the progress that has been made and future trends in all aspects of government and industry, especially in regards to patent portfolio and development status in that semiconductor industry, so that challenges and opportunities can be handled more effectively. This speech will cover:
1. Analyze global semiconductor enterprises that compete for the Chinese market with respect to the differences between their patent portfolios and focuses in China
2. Provide patent portfolios insights and quality issues of semiconductor enterprises of China and other foreign countries. In addition, remedying defects and discover better opportunities

We’ve all heard the claims before.
Databases with 100+ million patents. Promises of high-quality data. Statements touting the latest in data processing technology.
Yet, all of these claims do not necessarily ensure that quality data is obtained or that a resulting patent search will yield reliable quality data in its results.
In fact, patent data quality is highly dependent on the ability to source, collect, cleanse, and perform post-acquisition processing on the patent data.
After all, when it comes to patent data and patent search tools, data quantity plays an important role, of course, but it is data quality that is critical in delivering crucial patent insights.
1. Comprehensive Data Quality is more than collecting worldwide patents and utilizing logic-based rules to clean the data (commonly found in industry)
2. Currently there is NO single database source that timely consolidates and presents up-to-date information on the patent status
3. Patent Data Quality encompasses other dimensions, such as post-acquisition processing, which yields high quality and relevant data such as legal status and current assignee/patent owner
4. This process requires various complex algorithms to process and identify the current status.

Freedom to operate, or FTO, is the right to market and sell a product or service in a new market. Why is FTO analysis and planning important? We all have heard stories in the news about a consumer electronics manufacturer being sued by its competitor soon after moving into a new market. FTO efforts should be made to understand and manage the risks associated with entering into a market prior to commercialization. In this seminar, we will explore the legal basis and the mechanics behind an FTO patent search, relevance analysis, and risk analysis.
The speakers will demonstrate how patent risk analysis can benefit a Taiwanese manufacturer of medical respiratory therapy devices by aligning hidden patent information with real business needs and the freedom to operate in a new market.
